To put together your own Jedi-like workout

The Jedi Workout Pickering

To put together your own Jedi-like workout, read on! Learn a few basics, then experiment to create your own routine from the Jedi-approved disciplines below:

At over 2,000 years old, this is one of the oldest forms of martial arts in the world, originating in Korea. It involves a system of blocks, kicks, punches, and open-handed strikes and may also include various take-downs or sweeps, throws, and joint locks.

King Fu

The famous monks of Shaolin were the originators of Kung Fu, with its related Yi Jin Jing, a series of exercises which developed strength, vitality, and internal energy.

In Kung Fu, respect, patience, humility, and morality are valued. It requires that you stay calm and this is perhaps the most unique quality of the training (and the most Jedi-like).

The Aikido discipline could not be any more closely related to the power of the Jedi. It focuses not on punching or kicking opponents, but rather on using your opponent's own energy to gain control of them or to throw/push them away from you. Motion and dynamics of movement are key.

Fencing incorporates agility, strength, coordination, balance, and timing. This sport uses three types of swords, most recognizably Jedi-like, is the saber.

Yoga is not just about physical flexibility and strength, it joins, or “yokes” together intellectual, emotional, and karma energies. The dedicated study and practice of yoga will help any aspiring Jedi let go of ego, control their anger, let go of fear – all of the utmost importance when undergoing your Jedi training.

May these four keys act as a pathway to your own Jedi-training. May the Force be with you!
